Release courtesy of Molloy University Sports Information ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY – Director of Athletics Susan Cassidy-Lyke announced the promotion of Steve Woessner as the Head Women's Volleyball Coach for the 2025 season. Woessner had previously spent five seasons with the Lions as the Associate Head Coach and will provide a seamless transition for the Lions' program as outgoing coach Brian Smith steps away. "Coach Woessner's transition to head coach allows us to maintain stability and consistency for the student-athletes," said Cassidy-Lyke. "He has been a main contributor to the program working in tandem with Coach Smith and I am excited to see how he will advance the program as we move forward. While I am sorry to see Coach Smith go, the goal for all of our teams is a conference championship and I am confident that Coach Woessner has the knowledge, vision, and passion to meet that expectation." While with Molloy, Woessner has been part of over 50 wins and has appeared in three East Coast Conference Tournaments and one NCAA Tournament and primarily working with the middle blockers. "I would like to thank Susan Cassidy-Lyke for the opportunity to lead Molloy volleyball. I would also like to personally thank Brian Smith for his strong leadership and guidance within this program. He built a strong foundation that I hope to continue to build on for years to come," said Woessner. "I am extremely excited to get to work with our outstanding student-athletes to help them achieve their goals on the volleyball court, in the classroom, and in life." Before joining the Lions, Woessner was a head coach with Academy Volleyball Club and qualified for the Open Division of the Boys Junior National Championship with his 17U team. He also coached as an assistant with Connetquot High School and his alma mater SUNY New Paltz. While at New Paltz, Woessner was a four-time All-Conference selection and earned three All-American nods. The Hawks won two UVC Championships in his tenure and took home the National Championship in his junior season.
