HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Toni Sims and Anna Jones have been named Oakwood University's Co-Players of the Week sponsored by Zaxby's. In four games during the week of April 21-27, Sims, a freshman outfielder from Douglasville, Ga., and Jones, a junior catcher from Attalla, came up big for the Ambassadors in the HBCUAC 2025 Softball Championship. Sims batted .500, going 6-for-12, including a pair of home runs. She also scored four runs and had seven RBI. Sims' best game came in the tournament opener against Rust College. In a 9-1 win over the Bearcats, she went 3-for-3, scored two runs and had an RBI. Sims was 1-for-2 with a three-run homer in a 7-3 loss to Stillman College and went 1-for-4, including a two-run homer in a season-ending 6-4 loss to Rust College. Sims led the team in home runs (4), total bases (46), OPS (.913) and slugging % (.511). She finished tied for first in doubles (5), second in batting average (.322), tied for second in RBI (15), third in hits (29) and third in runs (17). Jones batted .462, going 6-for-13, scored six runs and had two RBI. Her best game came in a 15-6 win over Voorhees University that kept the Ambassadors' season alive. She finished 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Jones led the team in batting average (.368), hits 32), RBI (16) and tied for first in doubles (5). She was third in OPS (.821), fourth in runs (16), fourth in total bases (37) and fourth in slugging % (.425).
