Release courtesy of Queens College Sports Information FLUSHING, NY – A new chapter in the storied history of the Queens College women's basketball program is set to begin this upcoming academic year. Athletic Director Rob Twible has officially announced the hiring of Will Brown as the new head coach of the women's basketball program. "We are pleased to officially welcome Coach Will Brown to the Queens College community. Coach Brown brings a distinguished record of success and leadership at every level of competition." Stated Twible. "I am confident in his ability to advance our program and establish Queens College as a formidable contender within the region." Brown, a member of the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame becomes the eighth head coach in the Knights' NCAA Division II era, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. "I would like to thank Director of Athletics Rob Twible and the Search Committee for the opportunity to lead the Queens College Women's Basketball program. Queens College offers an outstanding education and a very competitive level of NCAA DII athletics." Said Brown. "I am confident that together we can build a championship level program that enjoys success in the classroom, on the court, and in the community. I look forward to working with our student-athletes and helping them grow and develop as people, students, and players while we compete for East Coast Conference Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances." No stranger to NCAA Division II and the East Coast Conference, Brown started his coaching career at The College of Saint Rose where he was a member of the Golden Knights men's coaching staff that made three NCAA Men's Division II postseason appearances including an Elite 8 trip in 1995-96 and Final Four in 1997-98. Brown's first collegiate head coaching position was at Sullivan County Community College where he led two of his teams to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) final four, including 1999 when the Generals were the NJCAA National Runner-up. Following his tenure with the Generals, Brown was named the head coach of the University at Albany men's basketball program in 2001. Over two decades with the Great Danes, Brown amassed over 300 wins, America East Coach of the Year Honors, five America East Tournament Championships, and led the Great Dances to five NCAA Men's Division I Tournament appearances. Brown's five America East Tournament Championships are tied with Jim Calhoun for the second-most in conference history. Brown also ranks second all-time in the America East record books with 20 postseason victories. "Under Coach Brown's leadership, we anticipate significant improvements in both the depth of our roster and player retention." Said Twible. "His commitment to developing individual skills and fostering a supportive team culture will ensure that our athletes not only grow competitively but also remain engaged and motivated throughout their time with the program." Brown spent the 2021-2022 season as the head coach and general manager of the Albany Patroons and was named as The Basketball League (TBL) National Coach of the Year. Returning back to the Division II ranks in 2023-2024, Brown was named the head coach of the Saint Rose women's basketball program where he led a team picked to finish second to last in the Northeast 10 Conference preseason poll to a 21-7 record, including a 17-5 conference record, and NCAA Division II at large tournament berth. Brown was voted as the 2024 NE10 Coach of the Year.
