POLYNICE, BELL MAKE KEY PLAYS TO HELP OAKWOOD OUTLAST WAU

TAKOMA PARK, Md. – Grener Polynice hit a 3-pointer with just under a minute remaining in regulation to force overtime and Jordan Bell made a free throw with 31 seconds left in the extra session that proved to be the game-winner as Oakwood University emerged with an 80-79 victory Sunday afternoon in a men's non-conference basketball game.   The win lifted the Ambassadors to 3-8 on the season. The loss dropped the Shock to 5-5.   Oakwood trailed by 13 points at halftime by as many as 15 points early in the second half before battling back in the second half and overtime.   Polynice's 3-pointer, the only one he made on the day, tied the game at 69-all at the ed of regulation. Then, Bell, who struggled at the free throw line, got one to fall late in the extra session to help the Ambassadors avenge a loss to the Shock earlier in the season.   Polynice led Oakwood with 18 points and 15 rebounds. He was 7-of-12 from the field, 3-of-4 from the free throw line with two assists and two steals.   Bell finished with 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.   Jason Griffin, who just got eligible, had 15 points, three assists and one steal, while Damon Fann had 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal.   The Ambassadors shot 40.6 percent (26-of-64) from the field, including 21.1 percent (4-of-19) from 3-point range, and 68.6 percent (24-of-35) from the free throw line.   Joey Brown IV led WAU with 30 points. Felix McGhee, a former Oakwood player, finished with 14 points, while Derrick Jones Jr added 11.   The Shock shot 38.1 percent (24-of-63) from the field, including 27 percent (10-of-37) from beyond the arc, and 72.4 percent (21-of-29) from the charity stripe.   Oakwood is back in action Tuesday at UT-Chattanooga in an exhibition game.   Follow the Ambassadors Visit the official home of Oakwood University athletics at Oakwood University - Official Athletics Website.
