PENN QUARTET SHUTS DOWN HORNETS

Dover, Del. (Apr. 25, 2023) --- Four University of Pennsylvania pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout in a 4-0 win over Delaware State at Penn Park in Philadelphia today. Starter Payton Bean, along with relievers Bella Florentino, Rachel Riley and Kelly Zybura allowed just four singles to the Hornets. Riley tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win. Britney Phally, Uxua Lopez, Emma Crowe and Chandler Martin accounted for Delaware State's base hits. Danica Larwell was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in , while Alyssa Pope had two hits, including a triple, to lead Penn's seven-hit attack. The Quakers opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and added single runs in the second and fourth. Sydney Hoffman was tagged with the loss for Delaware State. She allowed seven hits and four runs, while striking out one, in six innings in the circle. The Hornets will close out their 2023 regular season schedule with three games at Howard this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at  1:00 p.m., and wrap up the series with single game on Sunday at noon in Washington, D.C.
