NEW ORLEANS – Oakwood University center/forward Saniya Keys was named the HBCU Athletic Conference's Preseason Player of the Year, league officials announced Wednesday. Keys, a 6-0 sophomore from Cottonwood, dominated the conference as a freshman last season, averaging 19.1 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. She won 18 HBCUAC weekly awards a year ago. Joining Keys on the Preseason All-HBCUAC First Team was Rust College's Patsy Johnson, Stillman College's Jaida Minter, Wilberforce University's Laniya Early and Jordan Harris from Southern University at New Orleans. Oakwood senior guard Trenisha Adams was named to the second team along with Dillard's D'Mya Ferguson, Wilberforce's Makyla Tucker, Tougaloo's Makaila Brown and Kashay Bass from the University of the Virgin Islands. Oakwood was picked to finish sixth in the 2025-2026 Predicted Order of Finish. The Ambassadors received one first-place vote and 130 points. Stillman College, the defending regular season champion, was picked to win the league. The Tigers received five first-place votes and 185 points.
