TALLADEGA, Ala. – Oakwood University dominated Talladega College Thursday night, using a huge second quarter to go up 56-17 at intermission, and cruised the rest of the way enroute to an easy 85-58 victory in the HBCU Athletic Conference opener for both teams inside the Student Activity Center. The Ambassadors, who led by as many as 43 points on a free throw by Jasmine Young with just over three minutes left in the third period to make it 69-26, snapped their two-game losing streak to improve to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Tornadoes, who had their three-game winning streak snapped, fell to 3-1 and 1-1. Trenisha Adams led the way for Oakwood with 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range. She also had two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Alecia Reasor and Shaniya Sanders keyed an outstanding effort from the Ambassadors' bench. Reasor finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. She was 5-of-9 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line. Sanders scored 12 points, including two 3-pointers, made all four of her free throws, grabbed seven rebounds and had five assists. Combined, Oakwood outscored Talladega's bench 46-25. Saniya Keys scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds to round out the Ambassadors' top scorers. Oakwood shot 48.3 percent (20-of-58) from the field, including 44.4 percent (12-of-27) from 3-point range, and 81 percent (17-of-31) from the free throw line. Teanna White led Talladega College with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists. Olympia Chaney finished with 16. The Tornadoes shot 31.3 percent (21-of-67) from the field, including 25 percent (4-of-16) from beyond the arc, and 48 percent (12-of-25) from the charity stripe.
