HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University snapped a 23-game losing streak Thursday by sweeping Philander Smith 7-6 and 5-3 in an HBCU Athletic Conference doubleheader at John Hunt Park. The Ambassadors improved to 2-23 overall and 2-12 in the league play. The Panthers fell to 2-21 and 2-14. Game 1 Jorge Hernandez's walk-off single scored Joshua Mack with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Oakwood the victory in the opener. Jeremy Matos led the way offensively for the Ambassadors, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and scored a run. Mack was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and scored the game-winning run. Jordan Jennings was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and scored a run. Kyler Bradley, Hernandez, Derrick Sanders, Ahmad Woods and Treyvon Jones had one hit apiece. Dakota Cobb (1-3) picked up his first win of the season, allowing six runs, two earned, on seven hits in seven innings. He walked one and struck out three. Game 2 Hernandez had two hits, including a pair of doubles, and scored a run as the Ambassadors picked up their first-ever sweep in HBCUAC play. Jennings was 1-for-3, including a three-run double in the sixth inning, and scored a run. Treyvon Jones was 1-for-2 and scored two runs, while Bradley and Matos also had a hit each. Anthony Brent Jr. (1-1) picked up his first win of the season. He allowing one run on no hits in 3.1 innings. He walked three and struck out one.
