TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Win or go home. That's the situation the Oakwood University men's basketball team finds itself in today when it takes on Talladega College in the opening round of the HBCU Athletic Conference 2025 Hope Credit Union Basketball Championship inside Birthright Alumni Hall at Stillman College. The Ambassadors (4-23) are the No. 13 seed, while the Tornadoes (19-8) are the No. 4 seed. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. Talladega College swept both games during the regular season, beating Oakwood 65-46 in Huntsville on Feb. 1 and then winning 89-60 a week ago in Talladega. The Ambassadors will be short-handed today against the Tornadoes. Jordan Bell, Oakwood's leading scorer, is out with a shoulder injury. A 6-foot-6 junior forward from Mobile, Bell sustained the injury in the Ambassadors' final home game against Voorhees University on Feb. 12 and missed the last two games. Bell was hopeful he could return for today's game, but Oakwood coach Simon Jacob ruled him out. Bell led Oakwood in scoring (15.4) and rebounding (6.7) during the regular season. With Bell out, the Ambassadors will have to count on Jamarkus Alexander, Jordan Green and Damon Fann. Alexander is averaging 13.6 points and 3.6 rebounds, while Green, who replaced Bell in the starting lineup, is averaging 11 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Fann is averaging nine points, three rebounds and three assists per game. The Tornadoes will counter with Corey Sands, Shaun Walker and Lamont Sams. Sands is averaging 13.1 points and 3.3 rebounds, while Walker is averaging 13 points and seven rebounds per game. Sams is averaging 11.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and has 38 blocks. The winner of today's game takes on the Philander Smith/Voorhees winner Thursday at 6 p.m. Follow the Ambassadors Visit the official home of Oakwood University athletics at Oakwood University - Official Athletics Website.
