HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Georgia Gwinnett College, the No. 6 ranked team in NAIA, limited Oakwood University to just six hits Tuesday afternoon as the Grizzlies swept the Ambassadors in a doubleheader at University Field. Georgia Gwinnett used a 10-run fourth inning to break open a close game to win the opener 17-4 and took the nightcap 10-0. Oakwood fell to 2-16 on the season with its fourth straight loss. The Grizzlies improved to 18-5. Game 1 Trailing 2-0 midway through the second inning, Oakwood battled back to tie the game. The Ambassadors loaded the bases on a single by Anna Jones, a Jordan Howard walk and a single by Ashlyn Hallman. Mary McCluskey walked to score Jones to pull Oakwood within 2-1 and Hallman later scored on an error to make it 2-2. Unfortunately, GGC scored four runs in the third inning and 10 more in the fourth to take a commanding 18-2 lead. Kaley Fuller singled and Toni Sims doubled to put runners on second and third in the fifth inning. Jones grounded out to score Fuller to make it 17-3 and Howard grounded out to score Sims to make it 17-4. Sims finished 2-for-3, including a pair of doubles, and scored a run to lead Oakwood's offense. Fuller, Jones and Hallman had one hit apiece and scored a run each. Hallman (0-3) took the loss, allowing 12 runs, six earned, on 13 hits in 3.2 innings. She walked three and struck out one. Game 2 Jones singled to lead off the fifth inning to break up the no-hitter. Sydney Arnett (2-6) took the loss, allowing 10 runs, all earned, on 14 hits in five innings. She walked one and struck out six. Oakwood hosts Talladega College Thursday at University Field.
