HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University athletics director and men's basketball coach Simon Jacob released the Ambassadors' 2025-2026 schedule today and it features 30 games, including 18 HBCU Athletic Conference games, and three exhibition games. The Ambassadors open the season tonight at Cumberland (TN) University before hosting Freed-Hardeman Saturday night in their home opener at Ashby Auditorium. Oakwood has struggled mightily the last three years, winning a combined nine games and failing to win a postseason game, but Jacob is optimistic about his team's chances this season. "We believe we've got a chance to more competitive than we've been since we joined the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)," Jacob said. "We like our recruiting class and our returning guys have gotten better. If we can keep improving and stay healthy, we can have a good year." Some of the Ambassadors' other non-conference opponents include Dalton State, Washington Adventist, Tennessee Southern, Trevecca Nazarene and West Alabama. In addition to their 18 HBCUAC games, Oakwood will play exhibition games at Jacksonville State, Tennessee State and UT-Chattanooga. "We've got a very difficult schedule, but we feel that will get us ready for our conference schedule," Jacob said. "For us, it's all about our conference schedule. If we can be competitive in the conference, we'll have a chance to get to the postseason and play well." Oakwood returns one of the top players in the league in senior Jordan Bell. A 6-foot-6 power forward from Mobile, Bell averaged 15.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Bell was seventh in the league in scoring and ninth in the league in rebounding a year ago. Bell and Damon Fann, two of the Ambassadors' top six returners, figures to play huge roles for Jacob. Eight newcomers will be counted on to help bolster the lineup as Oakwood will try to post its first double-digit win season in five years.
