OAKWOOD FALLS TO TALLADEGA COLLEGE DESPITE VALIANT EFFORT IN HBCUAC CHAMPIONSHIP

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Oakwood University, playing without leading scorer Jordan Bell, who was out with a shoulder injury, put together a valiant effort against Talladega College Monday afternoon in the HBCUAC 2025 Hope Credit Union Basketball Championship. The Ambassadors, the No. 13 seed, battled the Tornadoes, the No, 4 seed, for almost 30 minutes, but simply ran out of gas enroute to a 71-59 setback inside Birthright Alumni Hall at Stillman College. Oakwood trailed 28-25 at halftime and kept it close in the early going of the second half. The Ambassadors pulled within two points on three different occasions, the last time at 45-43 on a jumper by Jamarkus Alexander with 13 minutes left, but the Tornadoes used an 18-10 run over the next nine minutes to extend their lead to 63-53 and Oakwood never got closer than six points the rest of the way. Alexander led the Ambassadors with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 2-of-7 from 3-point range, and was 4-of-4 from the free throw line. He also had three steals and one rebound. Brian Williams, playing his last game in an Oakwood uniform, finished with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting. He also had three rebounds and a steal. Oakwood shot 37.7 percent (23-of-61) from the field, including 19.2 percent (5-of-26) from 3-point range, and 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the free throw line. Lamont Sams led Talladega College with 22 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks. Shaun Walker finished with 19 points, while Wilfred Campbell added 11. Derek Burditt had 11 assists, four steals and two rebounds. The Tornadoes shot 45.8 percent (27-of-59) from the field, including 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from beyond the arc, and 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the charity stripe. Oakwood finished the season 4-25.
