OAKWOOD FALLS APART IN SECOND HALF AND FALLS TO TALLADEGA COLLEGE IN HBCUAC OPENER

TALLADEGA, Ala. – Oakwood University took a nine-point lead into the locker room at halftime over Talladega College Monday night, but couldn't maintain it as the Tornadoes battled back to come away with an 86-79 victory over the Ambassadors in an HBCU Athletic Conference game inside the Student Activity Center.   Oakwood led 48-39 at intermission, but Talladega outscored the Ambassadors 47-31 in the second half to take the victory. The Tornadoes won largely by their ability to score in the paint. Talladega outscored Oakwood 48-34 in points in the paint.   The loss dropped Oakwood to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in league play. Talladega, which snapped its four-game losing streak, improved to 1-4 and 1-1.   Jordan Bell led the Ambassadors with 23 points on 5-of-16 shooting. He also had three rebounds and three assists.   Tahj Evans finished with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range.   Chase Jackson scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a 3-pointer. He also had seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.   Oakwood shot 44.8 percent (26-o-58) from the field, including 32 percent (8-of-25) from beyond the arc, and 86.4 percent (19-of-22) from the free throw line.   Shaun Walker led four Tornadoes in double figures with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Arthur Williams finished with 19 points, while Eric Howard Jr. and Treyon Delmore scored 10 points each.   Talladega shot 52.3 percent (34-of-65) from the field, including 39.1 percent (9-of-23) from 3-point range, and 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from the charity stripe.   Oakwood visits Voorhees University Saturday night at 7:30.   Follow the Ambassadors Visit the official home of Oakwood University athletics at Oakwood University - Official Athletics Website.
