OAKWOOD COMES UP SHORT IN COMEBACK ATTEMPT AGAINST WILBERFORCE IN HBCUAC ACTION

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – Oakwood University, down by as many as 10 points with just under nine minutes remaining against Wilberforce University Thursday night, couldn't complete the comeback attempt.   Grener Polynice's 3-pointer with 54 seconds to play pulled the Ambassadors within 80-76, but Oakwood couldn't get any closer as the Bulldogs came away with an 84-77 victory in an HBCU Athletic Conference game inside Gaston Lewis Arena.   The win dropped the Ambassadors to 2-8 overall and 1-2 in league play. The Bulldogs, which snapped their five-game losing streak, improved to 3-6 and 1-2.   Jordan Bell led Oakwood with 23 points and seven rebounds. He was only 8-of-19 from the field, but hit three 3-pointers, and had one assist and one steal.   Joshua Barnett finished with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. He also had four rebounds and four assists.   Tahj Evans had 11 points and four rebounds.   The Ambassadors shot 44.8 percent (26-of-58) from the field, including 34.8 percent (8-of-23) from beyond the arc, and 70.8 percent (17-of-24) from the free throw line.   Eduardo Diaz led four Bulldogs in double figures with 21 points. Jesse Olverson Jr finished with 15 points, while Daiquan Coach and Jamir Hymes scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.   Wilberforce shot 50.9 percent (29-of-57) from the field, including 45 percent (9-of-20) from beyond the arc, and 70.8 percent (17-of-24) from the charity stripe.   Oakwood is back in action Sunday afternoon at Washington Adventist.   Follow the Ambassadors Visit the official home of Oakwood University athletics at Oakwood University - Official Athletics Website.
