MEAC play started on Friday, with Coppin State, Howard, Maryland Eastern Shore, and Norfolk State all picking up wins. Coppin was the lone road team to win, taking a rematch of last season's championship match over Delaware State. Howard swept South Carolina State, UMES outlasted Morgan in five sets, and Norfolk State swept North Carolina Central.
