Recap courtesy of Kutztown University Sports Information PITTSBURGH, PA – Kutztown University's return to the NCAA Women's Bowling Championship was a successful one as the Golden Bears swept Fayetteville State, 2-0, in an opening round single elimination mega match Thursday morning to move on in the Pittsburgh Regionals at the AMF Mt. Lebanon Lanes. The East Coast Conference champion Golden Bears (64-43) advanced by downing the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) champions. Kutztown squared off against the Broncos in a traditional match at the CSU Lady Eagles Invitational back in November, picking up a 917-847 victory. Thursday's traditional match saw the Maroon and Gold defeat Fayetteville State 845-748 before winning the quint baker segment, 817-771, claiming four of the five games. KU bowled a high game of 198 in game three, outlasting the match-high 170 FSU put up in the same game. Kutztown is in the NCAA Championship tournament for just the second time in program history. This is the first time the program has competed under the mega match bracket formatting. The Golden Bears won three matches, including one in double elimination best-of-seven play, during their inaugural trip to the national tournament in 2011. The Golden Bears now advance to the double elimination championship bracket, where they will face the nation's top team in Nebraska to open play, Friday. The results of the morning contests will determine if KU faces last year's NCAA Championship runner-up No. 6 Arkansas State or Great Lakes Valley Conference champion and 10th-ranked Maryville.
