JONES, JOHNSON AND HOWARD HELP OAKWOOD SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST LEMOYNE-OWEN

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Anna Jones and Katie Johnson had five hits apiece and Jordan Howard added four more, but it wasn't enough as Oakwood University split a doubleheader with LeMoyne-Owen Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference softball doubleheader at University Field. The Ambassadors took the opener 8-0, but fell 5-4 in the nightcap. Oakwood improved to 6-19 on the season, while LeMoyne-Owen is now 4-13. Game 1 Johnson was 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored two runs, while Howard and Jones were 2-for-3 as the Ambassadors blanked the Magicians. Howard scored two runs and had an RBI, while Jones scored a run and had an RBI. Sydney Arnett was 1-for-3 with two RBI and scored a run, while Ashlyn Hallman had a hit and scored a run. Sara Tate also had a hit for Oakwood. Arnett (6-7) got the win, allowing no runs on four hits in five innings. She walked one and struck out seven. Game 2 The Ambassadors led 3-1 after three innings, but managed just one run the rest of the way as the Magicians pushed across two runs in the top of the fourth and the fifth to come away with the narrow win. Offensively, Jones led the way, going 3-for-4 including two doubles, and two RBI. Howard was 2-for-4, including a triple, two runs and an RBI. Johnson was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Toni Sims was 2-for-4, while Jana Morrow was 2-for-3. Arnett, Hallman and Careen Whitehead had one hit apiece. Arnett (6-8) took the loss, allowing five runs, all earned, on nine hits in seven innings. She walked two and struck out 10.
