Dover, Del. (Mar. 18, 2023) --- Fourteen players scored at least one goal for Jacksonville in the Dolphin's 20-3 victory over Delaware State in the Atlantic Sun women's lacrosse opener for each team today. Ainsley Scruggs came off the bench to lead Jacksonville with four goals, while teammate Brianna Samuels tallied three. London Downing, Gwenna Gentle and Ebony Reddick accounted for Delaware State's goals. The Dolphins were ahead 2-0 when Downing scored for the Hornets at the 7:10 mark of the first period. Jacksonville answered by scoring the next six goals to open up an 8-1 lead less than 30 seconds into the second frame. Reddick's goal, her fourth on the last two games, pulled the Hornets to within six with 11:42 in the period. Jacksonville was ahead 13-2 at the half, and opened up a 16-2 lead on a goal by Samuels with 30 seconds to go in the third period. Gentle closed out Delaware State's scoring on a shot with 12:50 left to play. Delaware State is on the road for the next four games, beginning with a visit to Radford on Thursday (Mar. 23). The Hornets return home on Apr. 16 to face Stetson.
