HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -Jalaa Hawkins was the lone bright spot for Oakwood University Tuesday afternoon as Bryan College swept the Ambassadors in a doubleheader at University Field. The Lions took the first game 11-0 and the nightcap 7-1. Hawkins had a hit in both games, but the Ambassadors managed just six on the day. Oakwood fell to 1-7 on the season, while Bryan College improved to 6-2. Game 1 Hawkins, Sydney Arnett, MacKenzie Smith and Toni Sims had hits in the opener. Arnett (1-4) took the loss, allowing 11 runs on 14 hits in seven innings. She walked two and struck out six. Game 2 Bryan College pitcher Kayleigh Smith was almost unhittable in the second game, allowing just two hits, while striking out 12 Ambassadors. Careen Whitehead (0-2) took the loss, allowing seven runs, five earned, on 12 hits in seven innings. She struck out one. Oakwood opens HBCU Athletic Conference play Saturday at Dillard University in New Orleans.
