December 5th, 2022, during the 2022 Golf Coaches of America Association (GCAA) National Convention, Virginia Union University's Head Coach E. Lee Coble was presented with the 2022 HBCU National Academic Award. The criteria for this award you must have a Grade Point Average (GPA) 3.50 or higher to be eligible for any of the academic awards. The golf team also received the Golf Coaches of America Association All-Academic Team President's Special Recognition for 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 for maintaining a GPA 3.50 or higher. As well as the HBCU Academic National Champions the last three seasons 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22 (back-to-back-to back).
