DECATUR, Ala. – Oakwood University placed three players on the All-HBCU Athletic Conference softball team and another member of the team was named a Scholar-Athlete, league officials announced Tuesday night on the eve of the tournament. Outfielder Jalaa Hawkins was named first-team All-HBCUAC and infielder Jordan Howard was named the league's Freshman of the Year. Pitcher Sydney Arnett was named second-team All-HBCUAC, while second baseman/pitcher Ashlyn Hallman was named a Scholar-Athlete after accumulating a 4.0 GPA in Elementary Education. Hawkins batted .322 with two home runs, seven RBI and six stolen bases. Howard batted a team-high .338 with one home run, 15 runs and 13 RBI. Arnett leads the Ambassadors in the circle. She leads the league with 119 strikeouts, averaging almost seven per game. Arnett also ranks in the top 10 with a 4.81 ERA and had six of Oakwood's seven wins this season. Oakwood will take on Rust College today in the opening round of the 2025 HBCUAC Softball Championship at the Wilson Morgan Complex.
