FIVE DIFFERENT OAKWOOD PLAYERS SHINE AGAINST USSA

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Five different players had two hits apiece – Anthony Brent Jr., Jorge Hernandez, Treyvon Jones, Eli Kennedy and Derrick Sanders - but it wasn't enough as Oakwood University was swept by the United States Sports Academy in a doubleheader Friday afternoon at John Hunt Park. The Eagles downed the Ambassadors 12-3 in the opener and 6-3 in the nightcap. Oakwood fell to 0-18 on the season. Game 1 Brent Jr and Jones had two hits apiece in the opener. Brent Jr went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple and scored a run, while Jones was also 2-for-3. Trailing 2-0 midway through the second inning, Hernandez singled with two outs and came around to score on a dropped third strike to Kyler Bradley to make it 2-1. The Ambassadors pushed across two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brent Jr tripled and scored on a single by Joshua Mack to make it 7-2. Mack later scored on a single by Sanders to make it 7-3. Jordan Jennings also had a hit for Oakwood. Dawryn Coronado (0-3) took the loss, allowing six runs, all earned, on six hits in 2.2 innings. He walked two. Game 2 Kennedy went 2-for-3 to lead the Ambassadors in the nightcap. Oakwood trailed 4-3 through six innings, before the Eagles pushed across two runs in the top of the seventh to come away with the victory. Akari David singled with two outs in the bottom of the second inning and came around to score on a passed ball to tie the game at 1-1. Jennings walked and later scored on an error to tie the game at 2-2 in the third. Hernandez singled and later scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to pull Oakwood within 4-3, but the Ambassadors were shut out the rest of the way. Sanders and Matthew Gutierrez Dalrymple had one hit each in the nightcap. Dakota Cobb (0-3) took the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits in seven innings.
