ARNETT, OAKWOOD DOWN TALLADEGA COLLEGE TO SNAP 8-GAME LOSING STREAK

OXFORD, Ala. – Sydney Arnett, the preseason Pitcher of the Year in the HBCU Athletic Conference, limited Talladega College to one run on eight hits to help the Ambassadors split a doubleheader against the Tornadoes Sunday afternoon. Oakwood won the opener 5-1, while Talladega College took the nightcap 6-2. The Ambassadors are now 2-13 overall and 1-4 in league play. Game 1 Arnett (2-4) walked one and struck out six to help Oakwood snap its eight-game losing streak. She gave up one run in the bottom of the first inning and shut out the Tornadoes the rest of the way. Arnett also went 1-for-4 at the plate. Jalaa Hawkins, Toni Sims and Sara Tate had two hits apiece to lead the Ambassadors' offense. Hawkins was 2-for-4, including a double, scored two runs and had an RBI. Sims went 2-for-3, including a double, and an RBI. Tate was 2-for-3, including a double, and scored a run. Katie Johnson, Jordan Howard and Ashlyn Hallman had a hit each. Howard and Hallman scored a run each. The game was tied 1-1 through four innings, but the Ambassadors scored four runs in the fifth, including a two-run double from Hawkins to make it 3-1. Jana Morrow had a sacrifice fly to score Tate and Sims singled to score Hawkins to make it 5-1. Game 2 Howard and Hallman had two hits apiece, but Oakwood couldn't overcome an early 6-1 deficit in falling in the nightcap. Talladega College led 2-1 after the first inning, but pushed across four runs in the bottom of the second to go up 6-1. The Ambassadors rallied in the seventh. Howard reached on a fielder's choice and later scored to make it 6-2. Hallman scored on a single by Sims to make it 6-2, but Arnett grounded out and Kaley Fuller flied out with two runners on base to end the game. Hawkins, Sims, Anna Jones, Mary McCluskey,  Fuller and Careen Whitehead had a hit apiece. Whitehead (0-3) took the loss, allowing six runs, all earned, on six hits in 1.2 innings. She walked two.
