ARNETT MASTERFUL AS OAKWOOD PICKS UP FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Sydney Arnett was masterful Sunday afternoon in helping Oakwood University softball pick up its first win of the season. Arnett went the distance, allowing one run on four hits as the Ambassadors downed Bethel University 6-1 in the first game of the doubleheader. The Wildcats bounced back to win the nightcap 2-0. Oakwood improved to 1-5 on the season, while Bethel is now 9-1. Game 1 Arnett (1-3) walked three and struck out seven in seven innings to get her first win of the season. Bethel's lone run in the second inning gave the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead, but Arnett blanked them the rest of the way. Oakwood pushed across two runs in the fourth inning, one coming on Anna Jones' RBI-double to score Jordan Howard, before breaking it open in the seventh. Jalaa Hawkins hit a two-run homer, her first of the season, and Howard had an RBI-single to put the Ambassadors in the win column. Hawkins finished 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and scored a run. Arnett, Howard, Jones, Ashlyn Hallman, Katie Johnson, Toni Sims and MacKenzie Smith had one hit apiece. Game 2 Arnett (1-4) allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits in six innings in the nightcap in taking the loss. She struck out six. Oakwood managed just two hits, one each from Hawkins and Sims.
