TUSKEGEE, Ala. - The Lane College men's basketball team opened their season on Friday night in the SIAC/GSC Challenge, this year hosted by Tuskegee University. It took overtime, but the Dragons put away Shorter University by a score of 80-74. Kelvin Allen led the way for Lane with 22 points and was especially great from the free throw line going 9-for-10. Newcomer Julian Eziukwu added 13 points and Maximillion Bell chipped in 12 points. The Dragons dominated the Eagles in second chance points, outscoring the Gulf South Conference foe 18-6. Lane's transition offense also dealt Shorter fits as Andre Turner's squad outscored their opponent 16-4 in fast break points. Lane will play again on Saturday as part of the intra-conference invitational when they take on Union University at 1:00 PM.
