AKRON VICTORY IS EYE-OPENING WIN FOR HORNETS’ WOMEN’S LACROSSE PROGRAM

Dover, Del. (Feb. 19, 2023) --- The first time Delaware State faced Akron in women's lacrosse, the Hornets suffered an 18-5 loss on March 9, 2021 during a 1-9 season in Pam Jenkins' second year as the team's head coach. After posting a 1-13 mark in 2022, the program is hoping for a turn around this season as it prepares to exit the highly competitive Atlantic Sun Conference and join the Northeast Conference in 2024. If the start of the 2023 season is any indication, the Delaware State is showing signs that this year may be different. After a 16-4 victory over Howard in their '23 opener on Feb. 11, the Hornets have likely raised some eyebrows with a 13-12 four overtime victory today over the same Akron program it struggled to compete with less than two years ago. While there are plenty of games left in the season, including the grueling ASUN schedule, the Hornets are hoping the victory over Akron serves as a springboard to more competitive showings in the days to come. "We have added some new faces and the returners continue to show growth each day," said Jenkins. "The Akron win was great for our program and it's nice to be undefeated after two games, but we're all aware that there's plenty of work to do to reach our goals for this season and beyond."  The Hornets will get their next chance for growth on Wed. (Feb. 20) at home against Presbyterian (0-1). Delaware State is 0-6 all-time vs. Presbyterian, including a 15-7 setback in 2022.
