A New Stage for an Old Rivalry: The 2025 Morehouse-Tuskegee Football Classic

The Granddaddy of HBCU football rivalries packs up its legacy and heads to Montgomery — but will a new home mean a new outcome?

When you talk about the Morehouse–Tuskegee Football Classic, you are not just talking about a football game. Oh no, you’re talking about one of the OLDEST, most STORIED rivalries in all of HBCU football. Eighty-six years of blood, sweat, history, and PRIDE colliding on the gridiron. And this year? The script has a brand-new twist.

For decades, the Classic made its home in Columbus, Georgia — a neutral site that turned into a cultural celebration every fall. The tailgates, the bands, the pageantry, the bragging rights — it’s always been bigger than the scoreboard. But now, in 2025, this legendary showdown packs up its bags and heads to Montgomery, Alabama, under the bright lights of the Cramton Bowl. And let me tell you — that move changes EVERYTHING.

Tuskegee? The Golden Tigers own this rivalry, no doubt. The record books don’t lie: 77 wins, 30 losses, 7 ties. That’s not just dominance, that’s a dynasty. Just last year in 2024, Tuskegee didn’t just beat Morehouse — they embarrassed them, 42–0. They’ve won eight of the last ten, cementing their authority in this Classic. This is a program that knows how to turn history into momentum.

But Morehouse? Don’t sleep on the Maroon Tigers. They’ve had their moments. You remember 2019, when they shocked Tuskegee and reminded everybody that the Maroon Tigers don’t just show up — they show up to STUN. Or how about 2021, when Morehouse pulled off a 31–15 upset that had Tuskegee fans shaking their heads? That’s what makes this rivalry so dangerous: you may think you know how it ends, but Morehouse has proven they can flip the script when you least expect it.

And now — with a new home field in Montgomery — the question becomes even juicier. Will Tuskegee carry that dominance into Alabama and keep the crown polished? Or will the new stage give Morehouse the spark, the energy, the motivation to snatch momentum back and shock the HBCU football world once again?

Because when it comes to the Morehouse–Tuskegee Classic, it’s never just about who wins on the field. It’s about history, it’s about culture, it’s about identity. And so I leave you with this: as the ball kicks off in Montgomery on October 4th, 2025… is this just another chapter in Tuskegee’s book of dominance, or are we about to witness a brand-new outcome in a brand-new home?
